La Gramática, the new production by Focus, written and directed by Ernesto Caballero and starring María Adánez and José Troncoso, has sold out all tickets for the performances at Nave 10 in Matadero Madrid.
In addition to its public success, the play has been highly praised by critics, who have lauded both Caballero’s direction and script, as well as the performances of the two protagonists. José-Miguel Vila, from Diario Crítico, wrote: “La Gramática educates, captivates, and entertains from start to finish in a comedy that no one should miss.”
In La Gramática, we discover the story of a cleaning worker at the Spanish Royal Academy (RAE) with little formal education who, due to an unexpected accident, becomes a consummate scholar of language and grammar. A renowned neuroscientist offers to subject her to a unique process of linguistic deprogramming—a “reset” to resolve the many problems her obsessive zeal for correctness is causing in her life.
La Gramática is a satire that pays homage to our relationship with the legacy that, according to Lázaro Carreter, constitutes our most enduring heritage: language.
