18/09/2024

On September 6, the Grup Focus presented its new 2024-25 theater season. The event, which took place at the Goya Theater, brought together the protagonists of the season, the highest political representatives of culture such as the new Minister of Culture Sònia Hernández Almodóvar and the Councilor for Culture of the Barcelona City Council Xavier Marcé, as well as to prominent personalities and professionals from the world of culture and theater in which, as always, it became a true celebration of the performing arts.

Daniel Martínez de Obregón, President of Grup Focus, made public the official data for last season, authentic figures that, for the second consecutive year, have broken all records. In fact, during the 2023-24 season, a total of 471,000 spectators and 10.3 million euros in revenue were gathered, which represents an increase ratio of 11% over the previous season.

Furthermore, the COOLTIVA’T educational program, created four years ago, already has 18,000 young people who have attended 13 shows in 43 exclusive functions and, with Àfora, the objectives have been more than met, finding and putting into practice new lines of socio-cultural participation.

This season, which is articulated around the idea of the Theater as a meeting point, Focus aims even higher and will present, in its four theaters, its own high-flying productions such as the new staging Un matrimoni de Boston by David Mamet, mythical show that Josep Maria Mestres resumes 19 years later with Emma Vilarasau, Marta Marco and Emma Arquillué in La Villarroel; Un sogre de lloguer by Susanna Garachana and Jaume Viñas, a hilarious comedy of affairs starring Joan Pera and the contemporary classic by Yasmina Reza Un déu salvatge directed and starring Pere Arquillué at the Teatre Goya; Mort d’un comediant, a tribute to the actor’s craft written by Guillem Clua and starring Jordi Bosch, as well as Voltaire / Rousseau. La disputa by Jean-François Prévand, the critical and public success that marked the return of Josep Maria Flotats to the Catalan scene at the Teatre Romea and Escape Room 2 by Joel Joan and Hèctor Claramunt, which will continue to captivate the audience with a production that has broken all the public’s memories at the Teatre Condal.

All in all, Focus will invest 14 million euros in 14 own productions and 9 co-productions that will allow us to continue in the footsteps consolidated in the two previous seasons with, as Daniel Martínez assures, “our eyes on the future, reiterating the strength and importance of theater as a space to explain the stories of who we are as a society and as a tool to continue working for a better tomorrow.”
